It all started in 1997, when a few friends and families would collect money every year to help needy kids at Christmas time. A couple of years later, this group of friends and business associates came together to elaborate on the idea and include the towing industry. The families of the American Legion joined in and this offered organizations and an industry to help raise money each year to benefit more and more children at Christmas.
Most people look at towing companies as the bad guys who try to take advantage of people in their time of despair, instead of an industry providing emergency services. With this in mind, the organizers decided to bring the companies together in a variety of ways.
In 2001, the Non-Profit Corporation "Towing For Tots, Inc." was formed and now, working with our corporate sponsors, are hosting many different kinds of tournaments during the year, followed by a year end Christmas Celebration with a parade of decorated tow trucks and police vehicles.
All of these efforts are designed to raise funds and collect toys that are donated at the Christmas Celebration to the law enforcement community to be distributed to needy, homeless and underprivileged children and their families. This truly shows how competitors in an industry can work together with law enforcement and corporate sponsors, in the true spirit of Americanism, to assist families in need in the spirit of giving during the Christmas season.
The Many That Benefit
Our main priority is helping homeless, needy and underprivileged children and their families. We mandate that any donations collected in a specific area should go to help the underprivileged in that area. Not sent to areas that didn't contribute. To insure this, we at Towing For Tots are proud to work with the law enforcement community in these areas to distribute the funds and toys donated to only the underprivileged and homeless in the areas where the funds were raised. Over the past 9 years we have sponsored and provided for thousands of children through the following organizations:
